In need of a quiet February break, I had found myself browsing the Borg Family's great new website. I had stayed at one of their charismatic farmhouses in '02 - but where had all these luxury swimming pools sprung from?!
From the moment I sent a " you've been busy" e-mail, Marvik took charge of everything - responding rapidly to e-mails, saving ££ off the flight, meeting personally off the plane and transporting straight to Gozo and the palacial Tal-Barun farmhouse.
I found that none of the traditional atmosphere had been sacrificed - still masters of curious artefacts throughout - but 100% + had been added to the comfort factor. Plenty of sun beds to relax on by the pool, on the sunny balcony above, or on the panoramic rooftop.
The rooms are comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped and the immersion heater works!
San Lawrenz made a great base for gentle walker - down the Inland Sea (quarry road at end of road opposite - easy to miss narrow path along right side fo last house - turn right and keep out of quarries until meet rock staircase down to chapel) - or road to San Dimitri chapel/point and the north coast(+ on to Marsalforn if energetic) - or right by the Craft Village past the ancient Cave settlement and or up to Wardija above Xlendi (if anyone finds the way down, please leave a note!!)
The Borg family certainly live up to their "we'll take care of you" motto, without in any way intruding."

"We've been captivated by the charm of Tal-Barun, too - so much so, that its been hard to tear ourselves away to do the obligatory sightseeing.
Our best outings have been to the Pjazza in San Lawrenz. If your time is right you can catch the shop before it shuts at midday then sit with a lager across the road at one of Tatitas tables and people watch. When we did venture further afield we were fascinated to find that whenever we thought we were lost the road led us back to Victoria. It's well worth getting lost and finding yourselves in Qbajjar. Looking out to sea over the saltpans is great.

"This is an enchanting house and an enchanting village. The Borg family are so gracious and Joseph has done so much to make all things work for us. The roof terrace provides a view of the village and for breakfast. The pool is cold but refreshing and the sandstone which continuously covers the house reminds me of what is like to live in a Gozo house.

"We had a wonderful holiday at Tal-Barun. We fell in love with the farmhouse at the first sight. Breakfast in the shade of the courtyard, at noon a refreshing dip in the pool, barbecue at the roof terrace overlooking the village and the sea. It sounds as if we had stayed home the whole day but we didn't ..with our rental Hyundai Getz we explored all the shocking roads : ..the weather was fine - except one night and very spectacular thunderstorm!

What a gem to find such a place as Tal-Kitarra Farmhouse in the wealth of pages the internet provides!
We consider ourselves honoured to be among the first to visit this fabulous farmhouse and enjoy the peace of Gozo.
The kids have had a great time at the pool and sightseeing both on Gozo and on our day trips to Malta. Everywhere the 'locals' have chatted to the children, made us feel very welcome and done their best to 'point us in the right direction'.
Special places? Too many to mention but I disagree with the Guide Book we had. We visited several of the churches - Xewkija (go up the lift to admire the views) and Ta' Pinu are special. I loved Dwejra Point and we thought Xlendi was far more cosmopolitan than Marsalforn, but each to their own.
If you get the chance to be a part of one of the village 'Festas', be there! We were here for the Assumption and the festivities in Victoria were amazing - never seen anything like it! The fireworks, well...
As for Malta, we only visited twice but Valletta is well worth more than a day; head up towards 'Upper Barracca' Gardens for fantastic views. Mdina is also a must for atmosphere, history and religion all ralled into one.
Places to eat? We tried 'La Stanza' on the road to San Lawrenz and also 'Brookies' (we had a very long wait between courses but the food was fabulous!) Le Val d'Hor in Xleni was also very nice - all family friendly too.
But for making our holiday memorable we must thank Marvik and all his fabulous family! They are all so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Fresh tomatoes here are gorgeous!! We will be back without a doubt! Cheers!

"My family and I have stayed in Gozo for the last two years. We have all fallen in love with the island.The people are all so friendly and helpful. I also feel very safe and realxed taking my three children on holiday there. The farmhouse we stayed in this year was beautiful, spacious and very clean. It also has a wonderful pool. We were the very first people visiting this new farmhouse! The owners are extremely helpful and there isn't anything that is too much trouble.They did their very best to make us welcome and helped make our holiday hassle free and one of the best holidays we have had.
